Traditional system integrators 2004-2011 financials
Traditionally, 31st of March is the date that all my favourite system integrators (SI) have released their annual report for the previous year.
Oddly, however, I've seen some strange changes this year - for the first time. I could -and will- even say that traditions have been broken with

Why API's suck, and what they lack
The Social Media Movement is slowly moving towards monetisation. Social Business, yes even Social Enterprise, is nigh.
Infographics bite the dust in an ever-increasing frenzy to prove that social is here to stay, to rule, to conquer the world!
And as yet another evidence of that, API's are brought forward - by the hundreds, no the thousands - to prove that the Brave New Open World has finally (yeah, really finally this time, right?) come
Well, I don't think so. API's suck - big time

80-20: the deadly cause of IT project failure
There seems to be a rush of IT failure topics these days, all trying to find the Holy Grail of project failure. While I hold that this is a world of AND and AND, not OR and OR, I do see a major cause for project failure for the last decade: shifting from serial processing (waterfall) to parallel (Agile, Scrum, and so on)
Apart from the fact that Agile is solely focused on delivering a project rather than a product, this is not an Agile-bashing post: it is intended to show a very weak spot of contemporary IT projects

Recognise your parents' dementia in an early stage
No label for this post - wouldn't know how to.
As you may or may not know, my parents are over 80 and both in an advanced stage of dementia, or "suffering from memory-loss" if you like. Whether it's an official diagnosis or not, the results are that slowly, sometimes quickly, and then slowly again, life-as-we-know-it slips out of them
Through the various stages of anger, denial, acceptance, "ignorance" and all kinds of grayscale in between, me and my brother are now still watching from the side, trying to act when we have to, hands tied on our back - because there is nothing we can do

Why SAP will be single-tenant at start
There's an interesting discussion going on about multi-tenancy and SAP.
Let me be clear on one thing: SaaS can't be anything else but multi-tenant and opt-out, meaning that there is a single code base for all customers, with regular upgrades for everyone at the same time
But what is only natural for SaaS "pure players" will be impossible to realise for SAP - a small step for one can be a giant leap for others

Are you Living The Lie? Why?
In the deeply religious village I live in, a Jehovah's witness folder dropped on my doormat the other day. I didn't recognise it as such, but it's close to Easter so time to convert a few souls. During Summer holidays, camps are established for a whole week to lure in the kids, and convert them or "harden" the current spell they're under. I wouldn't mind really if the message they bring is a happy one - but it isn't.
The Message from God these people bring, is an evil one. As a matter of fact, they are the Devil they warn us for - yes, religiots are Satan incarnate

The benefits and concerns of Social
This post is the last in a series of six that deals with Social Business and Social Enterprise. The goal of the series: to explore the pros and cons of Social Business and Social Enterprise, given the current odds, and fast-forwarding to business opportunities now and in the near future
Well, this is it.
1. A small recap

The concerns of Social Enterprise
This post is the fifth in a series of six that deals with Social Business and Social Enterprise. The goal of the series: to explore the pros and cons of Social Business and Social Enterprise, given the current odds, and fast-forwarding to business opportunities now and in the near future
This post is about the concerns of Social Enterprise. While yesterday's was all about the concerns of Social Business, this one will take those concerns and apply them to Social Enterprise. An enterprise is a company with 10,000 employees or more, regardless of geographical dispersal (my definition)
